An odyssey

By April

The first remarkable thing was waking up in a dark room at 9 AM.

That’s a lie.  The first remarkable thing was passing my elementary school, then telling Maddie that we were 5-10 minutes away, then seeing the Commons, then driving on Aurora Street and realizing that the construction was done, then remembering that the last time I’d been here was in the summer and now it was autumn and almost winter and for the first time in my life, I had missed Ithaca’s first snow of the season.

Then there was waking up in a dark room at 9 AM.

It was dark because the curtains were closed and actually did something to alter the ambient luminosity of the room.  For a while I lay there, marveling the brilliance at having curtains that are opaque.  It’s the little things, you know.  And then I fell back asleep.

Anyway, let’s backtrack and review the events that transpired during April’s Odyssey to Ithaca.   Starting with Chris giving me a ride to Pittsfield in his sweet sexy car.  Followed by a little trouble locating the bus station.  Followed by a long and excruciatingly bizarre conversation with a complete stranger.  Followed by the bus station closing and me taking refuge in an empty pizzeria for the next few hours.  Followed by a four hour drive to Ithaca with one third of the Halpert kids, complete with a song about evil clowns on the radio and a lot of sleeping.  Followed by a lot more sleeping at the Halpert house.

Followed by breakfast, learning to play pool, puppies and kitties, playing ensemble music for the first time since July, making computers talk, Wegmans, and finally, HOME.
