Late March musings

By April

Last night I was in one of those moods where all I feel like doing is take completely random photos of things sitting on my desk or around my house. Moods like this are therefore indirectly the reason why I have all of like 500 MB of storage left on my computer.

So. It’s nearly the end of March. In previous years that meant very little, just like early June meant very little. But once I got to high school, early June started to mean “last days of classes,” and now that I’m taking AP classes, late March/April means “review time.”

Or it should. We’re only on the Cold War in US History and we have a couple more units in Physics too, because we always seem to be behind in those classes, so I guess only Mr. D has kept us rigidly on schedule (to the point of making us take tests outside of class when we had snow days…).

Thus we’ve finished up our last unit in Calculus. We’ve gotten our last assignment out of the textbook– which I’ve complained about in the past, to be sure, yet while differentiating those parametric curves last night, I still felt just a wee bit nostalgic. And Mr. D has started dribbling little nougats of AP exam wisdom into class, including RTFQ: “Read The Question.”

… The look on his face when he said it made it ten thousand times funnier.

Also, we had our last, er, lecture-format day of math seminar on Thursday. I didn’t even realize it was our last day of knot theory, so I almost feel a little guilty at how distracted and unmotivated we all were. At least our lack of focus wasn’t so bad that Victor had to throw chalk at us. Which has actually happened.

Now we get to start doing our projects. Which means now we actually have to do work. And understand the material. Gah.

I am currently sitting in the IC computer lab and being blinded by the sun, which only within the past half hour or so has gotten low enough to do such a malevolent thing. What I really should do, of course, is close the blinds. But actually, I’m worried that I’ll completely embarrass myself by failing to figure out how to operate the complex blind-mechanisms. Besides, sunshine makes me happy.

I conclude with the following from Overheard in New York, which just now caused me to noisily stifle my laughter in this very silent computer lab:

How Copy Editors Blow Off Steam
Metrosexual guy: If I was some fish…
Girl, not looking up from her bus schedule: Grammar just cried.
Metrosexual guy: I don’t follow you.
Girl: Good, because if you did, I would have to have you arrested.
Metrosexual guy: I am so confused.
Girl: Do the words ‘you are an idiot’ confuse you?
Metrosexual guy: I hate you.

Your “Xanga era” entries are HYSTERICAL! I actually don’t remember the tale about the rainbow/clear haired people and burning eyes. I do remember something about hamburgers and a hilltop. I guess there were too many to keep track of.

Yeah, Pauli was quite the prolific storyteller… good times.

Haha, we’re nowhere near reviewing for the APs in my classes either.

    I love Overheard in NY.

Completely random, but have you seen any of Russell Peters’ comedy skits? I find them hilarious.

Thanks Stacy, now I get to blame you (and the miracle that is YouTube) when I fail to finish my Physics HW. ;-)

  5. Stacy Says:

I hope you enjoy the hilarity then!
